Beaded Images with Epiphany Couch

In this 3-hour session, led by Epiphany Couch, students will create a hand-beaded edge around a small printed image or photograph, transforming a simple picture into a unique object of care and memory. Participants should bring a printed image no larger than 4x6 inches*. Using traditional edge beading techniques and modern materials, students will learn how to design a pattern, attach beadwork to a flat surface, and finish their piece with a clean and durable backing. Along the way, we’ll explore color, repetition, and the visual language of embellishment. This class offers a special opportunity to reflect on personal imagery while learning practical techniques used across many Indigenous beadwork traditions. Students will leave with a beaded image, a basic beading kit, and the knowledge to continue beading on paper, photos, and other flat surfaces.
